The eligibility review process is a series of detailed steps and procedures that must be followed in order to assess and investigate Ontario Works eligibility and referrals.
This five-part, online, interactive workshop will provide you with guides and tips to conducting an investigation, reviewing the differences between civil, provincial offences and criminal prosecutions, the use of discretion when deciding upon the pursuit of a judicial outcome and many other facets of the ERO world.
This is your opportunity to work with the Ontario Works legislation, applying it to case studies in preparation for carrying out an investigation from the initial receipt of the tip/information to the final outcome.
NOTE: This is an interactive, virtual workshop, which is different from a webinar. Participants will be expected to participate through voice and video, and to engage with each other and the facilitator in large and small group discussions, to learn from each other and practice skill development.
This course is designed for new and more experienced EROs, supervisors and front-line staff.
Five, three-hour online workshops over the course of one week

Testimonials
Here are what some attendees had to say about this workshop:
Cathy's knowledge and experience were great learning tools and really showed how these concepts and techniques are used in action. It was really nice to have opportunities to discuss and learn how other municipalities/regions operate in this area.
I enjoyed the thorough review of the legislation such as MFIPPA, OW Act and Criminal Code, this greatly helps build confidence in our authority as ERO.
The presenter is very knowledgeable and very approachable. I enjoyed her style of presenting and was very happy not to have any role play. I was able to take a great deal from the session and now feel more comfortable in my role.
Cathy Brown has been employed by Grey County Social Services since 1989 and has been an Eligibility Review Officer for the past 16 years. In collaboration with OMSSA, she developed and has been facilitating the ERO Core Curriculum since its inception in 2005.
