Reporting to the Director of Parks & Facilities Services, the Manager of Facilities Operations & Maintenance will assume accountability and responsibility for the overall management of City facility operations and maintenance, corporate security, energy management, housing building maintenance projects, and the airside management contract and safe operations of the Brantford Municipal Airport. The Manager of Facilities Operations & Maintenance provides supervision, performance management/individual development plans, mentoring and guidance to the Facilities Operations & Maintenance team members and oversees the delivery and performance of the groups scope of work including contracted services. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparation of the annual operating budget for corporate buildings; implementing small capital projects and managing operational contracts including building maintenance, and janitorial. In addition, the Manager will develop and implement renovations, repairs, upgrades. and retrofits for corporate buildings and housing sites; ensure maintenance of vacant and/or leased out buildings, carry out small projects as requested by client departments.  The Manager will implement corporate facility security and facility crisis response including developing and maintaining protocols; and inform multi-year capital plans, including executing building condition assessments and AODA assessments.  The Manager of Facilities Operations and Maintenance will also ensure standard operating procedures are developed, implemented and followed for Facility Operations and Maintenance functions; and provide technical assistance and guidance on building maintenance related matters to internal staff and clients within the Corporation.
 
Qualifications
  • A University Degree in Engineering or Architecture or an equivalent directly related field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Facility Management, security and energy management is an asset
  • Certification in Facility Management and/or Project Management is preferred
  • Membership with the OAA or Professional Engineers of Ontario is an asset
  • Effective program management and technical skills with demonstrated success in efficient facility operation
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and regulations, including but not limited to the Fire Code, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, Ministry of Environment, Operating Engineer Regulations, Building Codes, bylaws and Health Department
  • Effective leadership and communication skills with demonstrated success in developing, leading and managing technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with Management and staff, internal alliances/partnerships; to foster amicable relationships with employee groups; to align departmental programs and services with corporate goals and objectives and to champion the mission and values of the City
  • Ability to effectively deal with vendors, tenants, consultants, contractors, City departments and the general public to establish cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to analyze complex situations determine appropriate courses of action and prepare reports related to the same for discussion
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise and complete council reports and deliver presentations
  • Experience managing staff in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Advanced computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, ArcGIS is an asset
  • Working experience with Facility Management technologies such as workplace management systems, and maintenance management systems
  • A valid Ontario driver s license in good standing with a minimum G classification and access to a personal vehicle is required
  • Response to after-hours calls will be required
  • IMS 200 Certification or equivalent (ICS200) is considered an asset. Subject to course availability, certification must be achieved within the first year of employment.
