Status: Regular Full Time
Salary Range: $96,785 to $120,979 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits)

Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, ON
Hours of work: 35 Hours per week; Monday- Friday. Occasional evenings and weekend work will be required in order to attend community events.

The Role: The Supervisor, Community Engagement will lead staff who focus on a range of issues including:  poverty reduction, equity and inclusion, food security and lack of affordability in Peel. They will be responsible for effective community engagement and capacity building with diverse stakeholders and will oversee the Affordable Transit Program. The Supervisor will partner with other Human Services divisions as well as other Regional Departments and various community partners and stakeholders to address these issues. If you are a strong people leader with expertise in community engagement, community development and implementing strategies to tackle poverty, then this opportunity is for you!
 
Reports to: Manager, Poverty Reduction and Community Engagement
Team Structure: Leads a professional team of Community Engagement Specialists and a Coordinator.
 
What you will do in this role:  
  • Supervise and mentor employees through a variety of activities including hiring, coaching, motivating, developing job objectives, managing performance, assigning, and delegating work, ensuring quality and service standards are met.
  • Lead a dedicated team of staff who provide direct service and support to neighborhoods, communities, and system tables with the intended outcome of building capacity across sectors whereby strengthening overall community capacity leading to a productive, higher functioning Peel.
  • Support the planning and resourcing of various engagement activities on behalf of the Human Services department across the region.
  • Participate in the development of advocacy and public awareness campaigns aimed at mitigating the impact of poverty in Peel.
  • Work with senior management staff within the Department and across departments to support the sharing of information, engagement process and departmental planning.
  • Gather information, trends, issues, gaps, and statistics for inclusion in the development of Human Service planning and program design.
  • Support the planning and development of a community development plan which assists to build partnerships across system tables to support and elevate the priorities of the Region in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Develop partnerships with internal and external contacts to achieve major program objectives.
  • Political awareness, sufficient to identify and respond to situations using tact and diplomacy to understand the various parties and stakeholders involved in decision making processes, and to anticipate their likely reaction to statements, proposals, recommendations, and situations.
  • Develop requests for funding, presentations to senior level management and council reports.
What the role requires: 
  • Degree or diploma in a social or community related discipline.
  • 5 years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience, or experience directly related to the oversight of staff. 
  • In-depth knowledge of community engagement and community development principles and familiarity with frameworks such as results-based accountability and collective impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute community-based strategic plans.
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered 
Skills/Abilities: 
  • Extensive skills in negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building.
  • Experience with project management, leadership, and coordinating community activities.
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience implementing change management principles.
  • Experience in developing and leading advocacy and public awareness campaigns.
  • Demonstrated track record of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Ability to work at a high level with senior management staff from Region, local municipalities, Boards of Education, Executive Directors etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills with both government and community stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to develop an evaluation framework inclusive of outcomes, strategies, and indicators.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze data, making recommendations and improvement suggestions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work mostly remotely.  You will be required to occasionally attend on-site meetings based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, ON worksite. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
