Work Performed:
  • The Caseworker I position reports to the Supervisor of Social Services and is responsible for the verification, administration and maintenance of social service benefits and assistance for eligible participants. 
  • Interviews and screens applicants for assistance according to the applicable legislation and departmental policies.
  • Determines eligibility and provides financial assistance to clients and community partners in accordance with established guidelines, legislation, regulations, and directives and in accordance with delegated authority.
  • Advises clients and community partners, responds to client/community partner inquiries, provides feedback, conducts interviews and provides case management services through assessment, service planning, referral to community resources and follow up on client participation and compliance.
  • Assists clients to stabilize and improve their quality of life through the provision of services and financial benefits and referral to other programs.
  • Assists clients in the development of an appropriate employment/housing action plan, makes community referrals and manages participation in activities with a long term goal of self-sufficiency.
  • Performs data entry on automated systems, including but not limited to client records, databases, and statistical information.
  • Maintains accurate case files and records using electronic and other systems as required.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, and assists with presentations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Refers special and/or unusual situations to the supervisor for direction.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Community College Diploma (2 years) in Social Service Work.
  • Minimum 6-12 months related professional experience.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (Class G).
  • Testing will form part of the qualifications

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications
  • Ability to operate standard and specialized software.
  • Knowledge of related provincial legislation, policies and procedures including the Ontario Works Act, Housing Services Act, Residential Tenancies Act, and Ontario Disability Support Program Act, Regulations and Directives.
  • Must be able to meet screening requirements in accordance with corporate and provincial acts, regulations, and directives.
