Vice President, Housing (Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin)

Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin (HFHHMD) seeks a collaborative, results-oriented leader who is ready to make a meaningful impact in the community. With the goal of establishing itself as a recognized leader in the provision of affordable housing, HFHHMD is transforming traditional approaches to home building in the communities we serve.

Habitat for Humanity has a global, well-established reputation of mobilizing community resources to provide safe and decent homes to families to help break the cycle of poverty. As the Habitat for Humanity Affiliate serving the communities of Halton, Mississauga and, more recently, Dufferin, HFHHMD’s build projects have provided affordable housing solutions to nearly 70 families since 1999. HFHHMD’s housing model fills an important gap in the housing continuum – it provides a “pathway to home ownership.” It helps lift people (who no longer qualify for government-assisted housing but have nowhere to go) out of community housing. And it provides a viable alternative to market rental housing, which does not generate any wealth for tenants. By providing families with access to equity-generating affordable housing options, Habitat is making vital efforts to help combat the housing crisis in Canada. HFHHMD’s goal is to transform more lives by providing at least 130 new units to new partner families between 2022 and 2032.

Reporting to the CEO and serving as an integral member of the executive leadership team, the Vice President of Housing (newly created role) is responsible for the planning, development and execution of HFHHMD’s land and real estate acquisition, financing, planning, construction, and property and resident management services. The VP of Housing is a collaborative and results-oriented leader, who will work closely with the CEO on expanding the affiliate’s affordable housing portfolio, to support the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The VP of Housing leads a team of 3 (with opportunities to grow) and is also responsible for leading all affordable housing development projects from feasibility to completion, including occupancy planning and management of partner family (tenants, homeowners) relationships.

Is This the Opportunity for You?

You are a strategic thinker who can also operate as an effective tactical leader, with excellent judgement, creative problem-solving skills, coaching/mentoring skills and strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities. You hold a Degree (Master’s preferred) in urban planning, architecture, engineering, business administration, public administration, or a related field, and bring at least 8-10 years of progressive management experience, with at least 5 years managing or leading large housing development projects from feasibility to completion. Knowledge of relevant housing policy and planning legislation, Residential Tenancies Act, and an understanding of the National and Ontario Building Codes is desired and a strong professional network in real estate development and/or the construction industry would be an asset. If you share a passion for transforming traditional home building approaches towards a vision where everyone has a decent place to live, HFHHMD invites you to bring your passion and talents to make a meaningful difference as our next VP of Housing.
