This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week for up to eighteen (18) months.

Purpose:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Social Services, this position is responsible for assessing initial and ongoing eligibility for temporary financial assistance and provides ongoing case management to Ontario Works clients.

Preferred Background:

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioural or Social Sciences, or a Social Services Worker Diploma with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the field. The successful candidate must have highly developed case management, facilitation, crisis intervention and service coordination skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are essential. Working knowledge of Ontario Works Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Employment Standards and Family Law Act, Tenant Protections Act and other relevant legislation is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential. Knowledge of Social Assistance Management System (SAMS) is an asset.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening by first day of employment. Travel will be required; incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by first day of employment.

Duties:

  • Assess applicants to determine initial financial eligibility for Ontario Works and/or Low Income Benefits.
  • Reassess on an ongoing basis financial, residency requirements and employment related circumstances in order to determine the continuation of ongoing benefits in accordance with the Ontario Works Act and Halton Region Local Policies for Ontario Works participants and Adult Day Programs.
  • Case manages and provides supportive options on an ongoing basis with a vulnerable population while maintaining and updating client information and circumstances which can include crisis intervention.
  • Case conference with Ontario Works clients, various community agencies and internal/external partners in order to provide a wide range of services and education, including service coordination.
  • Completes initial assessment of participant’s skills and abilities for employment. Develops Participation Agreements on an ongoing basis that will best assist the participant to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Refers and monitors participant’s attendance and participation in employment related activities such as Learning Earning and Parenting Program (LEAP), Academic Upgrading, English as a Second Language and Job Search.
  • Facilitates workshops for staff and clients. ? Supports and monitors participants with medical restrictions including referrals to the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).
  • Attends and participates in service coordination meetings, staff meetings, training, development, and hospital/home visits as required.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
