EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Board of the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton (SPRC) is hiring a new Executive Director. The successful candidate will provide strategic, creative and dynamic leadership to the agency. He/she will be responsible for organizational stewardship & capacity building to advance social justice and civic engagement in the City of Hamilton by working with staff, community partners and the Board of Directors to promote the social research and community planning work of SPRC.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working effectively with the staff team, the Executive Director will be responsible for the management of all operations of the SPRC and the development and implementation of policies and strategic directions, priorities and objectives for the organization.  This position requires a commitment to best practices in governance in a voluntary organization while also delivering organization results that are in alignment with the mission and values, strategic directions, and priorities of the organization.

  •  An articulate communicator (written and verbal) with highly effective presentation and public speaking skills 
  • A strategic thinker with strong leadership skills
  • Proven track record in an advocacy role and ability to influence local government / government relations
  • A strong understanding of the importance of the governance role and the relationship between the Executive Director and the Board of Directors 
  • Significant experience in progressively senior management positions
  • Demonstrated track record of financial competency 
  • Previous leadership in promoting social justice and equity
  • A strong knowledge of or the ability to learn about the changing culture of Hamilton
  • Track record of engaging diverse voices and working with diverse groups

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree or equivalent managerial experience in a field relevant to the work of social planning
