OFIFC Indigenous Cultural Competency Training for Municipalities

(October 19 - 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

OMSSA and the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC) have partnered to offer the OFIFC‘s new training specifically designed for municipalities. The training is a great opportunity for 20 OMSSA members to get up to speed before the forum.

The cost of this training is $200 (all proceeds to the OFIFC) and involves both self-paced online modules and a live zoom session on October 19 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Throughout the self-paced modules, participants will learn about policy and legislation that has and continues to impact Indigenous individuals, families and communities. Topics that will be highlighted include early relationship and treaties, colonial logics, residential schools, and the Indian Act. Participants will receive a link to the self-paced modules on or after October 5th. Once members receive their login, it cannot be transferred to another member. The modules must be completed prior to October 19 and will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete.

This will be followed by a live 3.5 hour zoom session that will include information on micro and macro aggression and how this takes place for Indigenous peoples through health care, justice, education and housing. In this session, we will further explore the role of leadership in creating change.

Through the introduction of the Urban Indigenous Action Plan, the facilitator will highlight work that is currently being done in urban and rural and northern communities to help create change and build relationships with Indigenous Communities.

Register by October 13 to be one of 20 members to take this course ahead of OMSSA's Forum.

Please note: no attendee substitutions can be made after October 5.
