The Director of Ontario Works will support the CDSSAB vision by providing vision, leadership and strategic direction to the Ontario Works department of the CDSSAB. They will further support the vision through planning, organizing, directing, controlling, evaluating and improving the development and delivery of its priorities, services, programs and operations. 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION
  • Leads a department of over 40 professionals in the support of almost 2,000 individuals requiring income and employment supports
  • Develops, recommends and implements strategies, initiatives and action plans to support the goals of the department and organization
  • Provides direct supervision to departmental Program Managers
  • Supports community partners and represents the Ontario Works department & CDSSAB on external task forces and committees
  • Acts as a member of the Senior Management Team, as well as provides support to cross-functional teams, as appropriate, developing, recommending and implementing short and long-term strategic goals for the organization
  • Develops and implements Ontario Works Service Plans outlining strategies to ensure that clients have access to support and services relating to employment and social assistance
  • Develops, recommends, interprets and implements social policy and the application of legislation
  • Develops operational policies and procedures in order to implement programs and maintain, or exceed, service levels
  • Identifies municipal trends and interprets audit results establishing strategies to minimize risks to program delivery
  • Liaises with partners within the community ensuring community outreach and education services, participating in meetings, negotiating contracts for services and representing the organization in service contract negotiations/northern interests on provincial committees/ municipal interests/local committees
  • Attends monthly Board meetings to speak to Ontario Works and Employment Services issues such as income support, employment support, quarterly reporting, new initiatives, social policy and other related issues

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree in Social Sciences, Human Services, Business/Public Administration or its equivalent
  • A minimum of five years progressive management experience in the social services sector or other related sector
  • Comprehensive knowledge of provincial legislation, Acts and technology governing Ontario Works and Employment Ontario programming
  • Client focused with commitment to quality and excellent knowledge of client services standards and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in change management, risk management, project management and budget management
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal communication skills and negotiating skills to develop and manage both internal and external relationships
 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Bilingualism in accordance with the French Language Services policy
  • Valid driver’s license in Ontario
  • Criminal Records check required
  • Travel may be required
  • May be required to work irregular hours
  • Must maintain confidentiality
  • COVID 19 Vaccination
