POSITION PURPOSE
To help achieve the strategic goals of the Association through special project activities which align with the members interests and supports the Policy, Communications, and Professional Development activities of OMSSA by:
  • Conducting survey and data research and information gathering activities which contribute to and support the development of informed policy positions, professional development programs and member engagement and communications
  • Coordinating individual project work and initiatives related to emerging issues which align with the strategic direction of the organization
  • Overseeing the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects assigned 
 
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS   
Reports directly to the Executive Director. Works closely with other staff of the Association to to ensure linkages and integration with education and policy initiatives, maintaining a focus on working together to promote human services integration and local service system management and to build partnerships and alliances with other individuals and organizations to further the aims of the Association.
 
Supports and assists the work of the senior team at OMSSA in the areas of:  
  • Policy Development and Public Affairs  
  • Education and Professional Development
  • Communications and Member Engagement
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
Is responsible to coordinate project activities related to OMSSA’s activities including: 
 
Research Duties
  • Helps develop and implement a data research framework for the Association.
  • Conducts survey research and analysis required to determine program best practices.
  • Collects data and performs analysis to assist in creating support for policy position papers including the creation of “Solutions Papers.”
  • Regularly surveys members and tabulates information and data to be summarized and distribute findings to members.
  • Conducts targeted data collection and policy analysis to determine the impacts on OMSSA members.

Policy/Advocacy Duties
  • Assists Policy Manager in engaging members, board of directors, Policy Advisory Committee, networks, tables, experts and external stakeholders in the identification of priority issues and scoping of projects.
  • Works closely with the Communications Manager and Policy Manager to ensure consistent, accurate professional level policy messaging is delivered by the Association which is data supported.
  • Provides support to the Association’s policy and advocacy function as required.
 
Program/project planning and management (Educational Services) 
  • Assist with the planning and evaluation of the Association's services.  
  • Assist in ensuring the services offered by the Association contribute to the Association's mission, reflect the priorities of the Board, and the needs of the membership. 
  • Assist with monitoring the delivery of the programs and services of the Association to assure product and delivery quality. 
 
Membership relations/retention 
  • Assists in the implementation of a member relationship/retention strategy which includes:
    • Creation of an association onboarding video
    • Creation of a 47 Leads mentorship program
  • Helps promote the Association and its programs and key messages to members, key stakeholders, partners, government, and media and the public as appropriate. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS   
Education 

Relevant post-secondary education in Project Management with additional studies in either Social Services, Research Development, Data Analysis or equivalent.
 
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Proven experience of data management, analysis and research skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate and model the principles that underlie effective human services integration.
  • Proven superior project management and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understands the role and dynamics of not-for-profit organizations; experience and/or familiarity with municipal social services and municipal government in Ontario.
  • Sound knowledge of business and communication software applications and use of technology to support effective communications.
  • Detail-oriented, comprehensive and focused in order to ensure timely, accurate information.
  • Independent, organized and proactive in order to ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • A diplomatic team player who supports and promotes a positive work environment. Ability to travel and work outside of business hours as necessary. Relationship management and people skills are crucial.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple priorities.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
 
Proficiency in the use of computers for: 
  • Word processing (Microsoft suite of products or equivalent) 
  • E-mail 
  • Data management software and internet
 
Experience 
Experience in related work and demonstrated knowledge of the human services sector. Experience working in a member-based association, municipal government, or social services would be an asset.
 
Working Conditions 
The Social Services Special Projects Coordinator usually works in a remote office environment, but the mission of the Association may sometimes take them to nonstandard workplaces. The position works a standard work week, but occasionally will work evening, weekends to accommodate activities of the Association.  The role involves moderate travel.
