Position Summary:
This is a full time position at United Way of Perth-Huron.  The Director of Social Research & Planning is responsible to manage, direct and support community research, social planning as directed by the Social Research and Planning Council (SRPC) and the United Way Perth-Huron.  The Director Social Research & Planning will report to the Executive Director.   

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience in building relationships in the community with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with community groups from different sectors (including government and social service agencies/networks) and different cultural contexts.
  • Knowledge of content related to communities, populations, and social issues specific to assigned portfolio(s).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with mixed methods research, including, but not limited to qualitative research strategies.
  • Ability to write and/or supervise the writing of evidence-based research reports.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis.
  • Ability to adapt and find creative solutions in a changing work environment with multiple deadlines and pressures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum general university degree (e.g. General B.A.) or equivalent in related field. Masters in a related discipline degree preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience
  • Previous management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office programs.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Supports and engages the Social Research and Planning Council and its committees.
  • Supervises SRPC staff and consultants (when required) for programs and projects.
  • Obtains needed funding for ongoing operations and special projects.
  • Develops and monitors program/project budgets.
  • Supports creation of and monitoring of SRPC’s strategic plan.
  • Oversees the creative design, printing, distribution of reports.
  • Oversees marketing and communications in conjunction with United Way communications staff.
  • Identifies research needs; project manages related reports.
  • Authors/oversees consultants to complete research reports within ethical guidelines.
  • Oversees development and ongoing implementation of myPerthHuron.
  • Oversees development and ongoing implementation of the Perth-Huron Non-Profit Network.
  • Leads/Facilitates and/or participates in collaborative planning groups and community planning processes.
  • Engages in advocacy of relevant social issues to community and local government through presentations or other appropriate means.
  • Leads SRPC and United Way with Government Relations.
  • Supports United Way Community Committees in advocacy and community development as needed.
  • Represents the SRPC and/or the United Way at community, provincial or national committees.
  • Organizes community forums, workshops, and events as required.
  • Strategically builds strong and enduring relationships with community partners, funders, and volunteers.
