POSITION SUMMARY

This non-union position, under the general direction and guidance of the City Manager, is responsible for the overall strategic development and administration of the departmental policies and procedures and directing the social services functions for the Corporation and the County of Elgin. Responsible for the administration of the delivery of municipal services in the following areas: Children’s Services, Housing Services and Ontario Works. Is a member of the Corporate Senior Management Team and is required to participate in corporate initiatives not directly related to scope of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum three (3) year University Degree in Social Sciences with ten (10) years experience in a managerial capacity, and a proven ability in social services administration and leadership, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must possess a thorough knowledge of Ontario Works legislation, Municipal Social Services responsibilities, Children’s Services legislation, and Social Housing Legislation. Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and be capable of issuing clearly understandable written and verbal instructions. The incumbent should be organized, self-starter, possess strong interpersonal, communication and public relations skills and be capable of dealing effectively with staff/public/elected representatives. Must have excellent computer skills using Microsoft applications.
