2019 AGM Highlights


OMSSA hosted its 2019 Annual General meeting on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in Thunder Bay, in conjunction with our 2019 Leadership Symposium, providing members and delegates with updates on OMSSA's achievements, milestones and financial performance in 2018. Following the AGM, voting delegates participated in an election to fill four openings on OMSSA's 2019-2020 Board of Directors.

President's Report

In her report, President Elaine Baxter-Trahair highlighted key 2018 accomplishments, including:
 
  • Working to become a responsive, strategic and nimble association

  • Positioning our role, value and message in a new political context

  • Building trust with the Province and working to position members as proven leaders and natural partners

  • Investments in communications and online engagement

  • Offering more accessible professional development opportunities

Executive Director's Report

In his report, Executive Director Doug Ball outlined key steps taken in 2018 to strengthen operations, including:

  • Achieving financial stability and sustainability

  • Strengthening capacity through human resources and technology

  • Keeping members engaged and informed through the provincial election campaign

  • Meeting with incoming provincial ministers

  • Expanding our communications and engagement with members

  • Hosting relevant networking and professional development opportunities

Newly Elected Board Members

After hearing from candidates at the Annual General Meeting, OMSSA member delegates participated in an election to fill four spots on OMSSA's Board of Directors. The following individuals were elected to serve a two-year term from 2019-2021 on OMSSA's Board of Directors:
 
  • Luisa Artuso, Director, Children's Services, County of Wellington

  • Kevin Dickins, Manager of Employment and Income Supports, City of London

  • Jonathan Dixon, Supervisor of Budgets and Finance, Social Services, Region of Durham

  • Henry Wall, Chief Administrative Officer, Kenora District Services Board

Continuing Board Members

In addition, the following members are returning for the second year of their two-year terms:
 
  • Elaine Baxter-Trahair, CAO, Durham Region (continuing on as Immediate Past-President)

  • Cathy Cousins, Director, Homelessness and Community Engagement, Community Services, Region of Niagara

  • Laura LePine, Director of Social Services, County of Renfrew

  • Dan McCormick, CAO, Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board
