General Manager of Community Development (City of Greater Sudbury)

WORK FOR A CITY AS UNIQUE AS YOU ARE

Find yourself in a city of 330 crystal clear lakes, scenic attractions and untouched wilderness while enjoying a short commute, affordable housing options and urban amenities. Greater Sudbury is a great place to live, play and work.

Greater Sudbury is a hub for northeastern Ontario, central to the region’s economy through its provision of medical, education, business and financial services. We have ambitious plans and expectations for progress that makes joining Greater Sudbury’s leadership team an exciting opportunity. You will make substantial contributions to this beautifully diverse city, the geographically largest municipality in Ontario and second largest in Canada.

As General Manager of Community Development you are part of the Executive Leadership Team under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer. Your portfolio includes an array of services that are vital to the city’s quality of life. In your first year, you’ll play a key role in the implementation of our new Transit Action Plan and assume lead responsibility for critical community infrastructure projects, all in support of Council’s strategic priorities.

Community Development has a strong team of Directors who are not only solid performers in their own right, but they are also excellent colleagues for their peers across the organization. You will oversee meaningful work in the areas of Long-term Care, Children and Citizen Services, Ontario Works, Transit Services, Leisure Services, Housing Services and Housing Operations. Success requires collaboration with Council, your fellow ELT members and key community stakeholders, all while modeling behaviour for your staff that reflects our organization’s values.

Along with your university degree and extensive senior level managerial experience, you offer strong business acumen and the ability to make sound decisions involving various levels of complexity, ambiguity and risk. You have an awareness of current and emerging trends and best practices associated with the services in your portfolio. You are known for your ability to successfully address multiple stakeholders’ needs and to influence others to achieve outcomes. Your leadership experience will not only contribute to positive results today, but it will also help build the organization’s capacity to sustain high performance levels over the long term.
