Ontario Renews MOU, Commits to Consulting with Municipalities

At the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Annual Conference in Ottawa, Ontario's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark and AMO President Lynn Dollin signed and renewed the Ontario-AMO Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) one year ahead of schedule. 

The MOU sets out the principles and procedures of how the Province consults with Ontario's municipalities (through AMO) on provincial legislation or regulations, including a commitment to consult prior to making decisions that significantly impact the municipal level of government.

In his remarks to delegates, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark also highlighted his top five priorities, including:
  1. Cut red tape
  2. Increase housing supply
  3. Reduce unnecessary reporting burden
  4. Strengthen regional government
  5. Find efficiencies
