This forum will explore the changing landscape of housing in Ontario and how service managers can stay ahead of the curve to plan, manage and anticipate these changes while working creatively with stakeholders in homelessness prevention and proving affordable housing across the province.

Morning Plenary:

Concurrent sessions:

Ministry of Housing will provide three separate interactive sessions:

  • Social Housing Modernization:  As part of the Long-Term Affordable Housing Strategy Update, Ontario has committed to modernizing its social housing system into a more efficient, people-centred, outcomes-focused and sustainable approach to provide housing for Ontarians.  Please join us at this session for an update on the progress to date and anticipated next steps. 

  • Portable Housing Benefit:  Jim Adams, Director, Housing Programs Branch, Ministry of Housing will engage participants in an interactive session on the Portable Housing Benefit program.

  • Housing and Homelessness Plans:  Join the Housing Policy Branch for an interactive and practical session to discuss Service Managers’ experience developing and reporting on their Housing and Homelessness Plans, with a forward-looking focus on options and recommendations for the 5-year renewal (in January 2019).

Innovations in Housing Stability, Presented by Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association

ONPHA's Innovations in Housing Stability project profiles eight unique initiatives that have helped diverse low- and moderate-income people find and keep a home that meets their needs.  During this session attendees will see how innovation is helping people find and maintain safe, secure and affordable homes, and how these approaches can be adapted and applied in other communities.

Driving Change: Collectively Reimagining Our Roles and Response to Youth Homelessness, Presented by A Way Home

A Way Home is a national coalition dedicated to ending youth homelessness in Canada.  Communities across Ontario are seeking ways to organize, plan and implement strategies to address youth homelessness in a coordinated, measurable and impactful way and Ontario Service Managers have a significant role in the development of both local and provincial strategies.  In this session A Way Home's Policy and Planning representatives will introduce A Way Home's Youth Homelessness community planning resources, outline potential roles for Service Managers and begin to engage around provincially shared youth homelessness priorities.  

Unleashing Opportunities to Create Affordable Housing, Presented by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation

During this interactive session, attendees to discover how CMHC programs and resources can unleash unanticipated opportunities and partnerships to create affordable housing.  This session features representatives from Housing Development Corporation London and United Church of Canada who will dive into practical examples of utilizing CMHC funding to develop supportive and affordable housing.  

The forum begin with breakfast at 8:00 am and the opening plenary will begin at 9:00.  

Lunch will be included and the day will conclude at 3:30 pm.
