Eligibility Review Officer/Family Support Worker (District of Rainy River)




27 Month Interim Position, Fort Frances, ON
Full-time (35 hours/week)

 
Committed to meeting the needs of the community by providing services with care, integrity, and accountability, the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board (RRDSSAB) delivers Early Learning and Child Care, Ontario Works, Social Housing, Land Ambulance and other services for all organized municipalities and unincorporated areas within the geographic District of Rainy River. 
 
The Rainy River District covers an area of approximately 15,487 sq. kilometers and has a population of 20,110 (2016 Census).  It is bordered on the north by the Kenora District, on the east by the Thunder Bay District, on the south by Minnesota, USA and on the west by the Province of Manitoba.
 
The RRDSSAB is seeking an Eligibility Review Officer/Family Support Worker (ERO/FSW) on an interim basis for a period of approximately twenty-seven (27) months, ending December 31, 2023, with the possibility of ending sooner or later than anticipated.  This is a 35 hour/week contract in Fort Frances to commence as soon as possible.
 
Reporting to the Integrated Services Manager (Housing Lead), the ERO/FSW is responsible for investigating allegations of abuse of Social Housing, Ontario Works, Children’s Services and associated RRDSSAB programs, conducting reviews of discrepancies and appeals, preparing cases for Tribunals/Boards, assisting clients in pursuit of child/spousal support by assessing cases where an obligation to support may exist.
 

Qualifications will include:

  • Two year college diploma in social services or another related field and a minimum of three (3) years’ work-related experience.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of social services, human service techniques, community service agencies, supports and opportunities that benefit clients.
  • Proficient computer skills and the ability to work within a computerized environment.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload, as appropriate.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of independence, integrity, professionalism, exercise sound judgment in decision making and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Rainy River District and neighbouring Districts.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation considered an asset.
