Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager of Housing, this position is responsible for effective implementation and delivery of provincial programs and planning, developing and delivering municipal social service and housing programs, within the scope of all pertinent provincial and municipal legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines. Programs include Ontario Works, Children’s Services, community social investment programs and emergency shelters, KLH Housing Corporation programs and services, Housing Help programs and services, social housing program, Affordable Housing program components, rent supplement and housing allowance programs.

 

On a day-to-day basis, you will be expected to develop and recommend program directions, goals and objectives; provide leadership and staff direction; conduct planning activities to support program development, monitoring and improvement; assist with the preparation of the operating budget; manage the overall customer service operations; complete various reports; participate in local, regional and provincial planning with various working groups and community partners. To achieve this, you will be working independently and in concert with managers, supervisors and employees. Your work will enable the City of Kawartha Lakes to continually improve services, programming quality and customer satisfaction, with reliance on your excellent leadership, planning and coordination skills.

Requirements and Qualifications

You will be a motivated self-starter with an understanding of the importance of housing and social services for the residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes and County of Haliburton. You will have completed a post-secondary diploma in Social Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Work or a related field. You will have a minimum of 4 years of related progressive experience, with direct service and supervisory experience in a unionized environment. You will have in-depth knowledge of provincial legislation and government policy and procedures, along with knowledge of trends and issues relating to social housing, social assistance, early learning and child development, labour market and poverty. You will have effective analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact and maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times; demonstrated time management skills and the ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement. This position requires travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton to attend meetings and to visit various work locations; some overtime or early/late meetings will be required.

Annual Salary: $73, 749 - $86,276
