Position Summary

Reporting to a Supervisor or Manager of Social Assistance Services, in cooperation with the Ontario Works team, the Service Coordinator provides financial and employment assistance to clients, incorporating regulations, policies and procedures of the Ontario Works Act, local policies and other legislation as applicable with the goal of assisting the client in their transition from reliance on social assistance to meeting personal and career objectives that fulfill the individual's potential and lead to self-sufficiency. The Service Coordinator uses a collaborative, community-based approach to support clients in their transition to self-sufficiency. This includes making the client aware of community resources and services, advocating on behalf of clients to service providers, mitigating barriers to accessing services, and following up with clients to ensure that services were beneficial to the client.

Qualifications

Community college diploma in Social Services Worker program or related area. Preference may be given to applicants holding a Bachelor's degree or higher in Sociology, Social-Psychology, Psychology, or Social Work or equivalent and relevant program of study.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in an outcomes based, customer service environment in a direct service role
  • Ideal candidates will have directly relevant social services experience in income support and/or employment services
  • Demonstrated group facilitation and interview skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coach & mentor participants on their continuum to life stabilization and self-sufficiency
  • Experience monitoring the progress of participants based on their plan, and revaluating as necessary
  • Experience calculating budgets and analyzing eligibility for entitlement
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills to exchange, explain, interpret and discuss factual information internally and externally
  • Working knowledge of support systems within the community for employment assistance, housing, and education
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills to effectively meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Detailed knowledge of the Ontario Works Act and detailed understanding of departmental and municipal policies and procedures considered an asset
  • Demonstrated case management skills in a human services setting is an asset
  • Working knowledge of SAMS and other relevant internal systems considered an asset
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a motorized vehicle

WAGE RANGE: $32.58 to $34.67 per hour (based on 35 hour week) with benefits.
