Call For Proposals: 2019 Employment Forum


OMSSA is seeking practical and exciting proposals for breakout sessions at our 2019 Employment Forum, happening October 1-2, 2019 at the Holiday Inn International Airport Hotel in Toronto.

Proposed sessions should be relevant in tumultuous times, focus on best practices and/or teach practical skills that delegates can immediately use to inspire, support and assist high-barrier and difficult-to-place individuals.
 
OMSSA welcomes proposals from OMSSA members, community partners, practitioners, provincial and federal government, and other human services and employment organizations across Canada.

Based on our research, attendees are particularly interested in the following topics:

  • Working with Employment Ontario and/or other agencies
  • Supports for employers who hire OW clients
  • Developing a framework to enable staff to navigate a new employment system
  • Current/future employment trends (cannabis job market, solo-preneurship, supporting OW clients with self-employment in the gig economy, etc.)
  • Writing business plans or proposals to gain funding
  • Evaluating program success and identifying outcomes that matter
  • Effective case management
  • Placement and retention strategies
  • Life stabilization and life skills support
  • Employment strategies/placements for individuals who no longer quality for ODSP
  • Helping the long-term unemployed return to work
  • Employment re-entry for individuals with criminal records
  • Approaches to working with resistant clients
  • Working with clients with mental illness and addiction
  • Pre-employment supports for homeless individuals
  • Creating a continuum of support, from homeless to housed
  • Indigenous initiatives and employment needs
  • Working with an aging population
  • Working with youth (how to engage and retain their interest)
  • Adverse childhood experience assessment
  • Trauma-informed approach to service
  • Defining ethical boundaries in an increasingly barriered client base
  • Positive psychology and emotional intelligence
