Federal Government Releases Poverty Reduction Strategy

August 21, 2018

The Federal Government has released Canada's first Poverty Reduction Strategy, which highlights funding initiatives introduced from 2015-2018, but does not introduce new funding.

The Strategy also commits to:
  • cutting Canada's poverty rate in half by 2030
  • establishing a National Advisory Council on Poverty to advise on federal poverty reduction efforts and publicly report on progress
  • establishing a standardized measure of poverty through Canada's Official Poverty Line
