    Position: Supervisor, Child Care Services

    This is a permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week.

    Reporting to the Manager, Child Care Services, this position will be responsible for providing reflective supervision to staff related to staff competencies, caseload management, projects and team membership.

    Preferred Background:
    The successful incumbent must possess a degree in Child Studies or a diploma in Early Childhood Education combined with five (5) years’ experience working with children and their families with developmental delays is required, along with three to five (3-5) years supervisory experience in a child care setting. The candidate must also be a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Excellent time management and leadership skills are required, to supervise a team of thirteen (13) staff. Specific experience working with families with complex needs; family centered practice; reflective supervision; and service coordination is required. Knowledge requirements include innovative planning and project management; child development, family systems; along with knowledge of relevant Acts, legislation, and frameworks, including but not limited to: Child and Family Service Act, Child Care and Early Years Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act, and How Does Learning Happen?. Required skills include leadership, coaching and mentoring; the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal and external diversified teams; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Computer proficiency in MS office is required. Fluency in french or additional languages is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

    Working Conditions:
    The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen by the first day of employment. Flexibility in working hours is required as there may be periodic meetings and functions outside of regular business hours. Travel will be required, incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment.


    • Views staff from an asset based framework; who are confident, curious, capable and rich in experience.
    • Responsible for the administrative components of hiring new staff, staff changes and caseload management.
    • Responsible for knowledge mobilization within the team and supporting individual professional learning and the identification of professional learning needs with staff.
    • Implements Child Care Fee Subsidy program and develops the Child Care Services program policies and services related to children using Regional policy and Ministry of Education Directives.
    • Responsible for quality assurance of program outcomes through file auditing, project management and program evaluation.
    • Responsible for the alignment of services with the Ministry of Education’s early learning framework “How Does Learning Happen?”
    • Provides accurate statistical, financial and program information by a thorough knowledge of OCCMS.
    • Networks with community agencies to address unique needs of families.
    • Participates on internal and external committees as required.
    • Trains staff and participates in service coordination strategies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
