    TEMPORARY, FULL-TIME POSITION (six month duration)

    We are currently seeking to hire a Temporary (6 month duration), Superintendent of Community Paramedicine located in the community of Dryden, ON to join our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team.     Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Professional Standards and in collaboration with the EMS management team, the the Temporary, Superintendent of Community Paramedicine is responsible for researching, developing, evaluating and implementing an initial Community Paramedicine Program (CPP) with a core focus on “Paramedic referrals”. 

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Initiates the development and implementation of the Community Paramedicine Program with the initial focus on setting up Paramedic referrals within the Kenora District.
    • Investigates best practices, current and future patient care resources (with internal and external resources), monitoring the effectiveness of programs available, and evaluating and improving processes.
    • Creates and delivers training material and manuals; drafts and/or edits written materials; uses guidelines and expertise from other programs to develop and implement a local Community Paramedic Program.
    • Review and report on the effectiveness of the Community Paramedic Program and making recommendations to the appropriate staff.
    • Coordinate and organize the Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) program within the Kenora District.
    • Ensure accurate, legible records and documentation are kept through the term of the position to ensure continuity of the program.
    • Ensure Paramedics comply with organizational policies and procedures and all applicable legislation, regulations, standards, protocols, and practices as they relate to the Paramedics’ daily duties and obligations.
    • Initiate and participate in investigative efforts regarding patient care or other EMS related issues.
    • Participating in the strategic planning for the KDSB land ambulance service and contribute to budget planning and development.
    • Work as a part of the team and demonstrate commitment, spirit, pride and trust to accomplish team goals.
    • Perform other EMS management duties as required including assisting with operations, training and performing requirements of Duty Officer when needed. 

    Successful candidates will have:

    • Have strong understanding of Community Paramedicine projects and processes in place across Ontario as well as how the KDSB strategic plan relates to Community Paramedicine.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of electronic patient care reporting resources and system tools for monitoring and analysis of patient care and documentation.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current acts, legislation, standards, and medical and emergency response procedures pertaining to ambulance services, emergency dispatch systems, and protocols.
    • Requires the ability to develop strong relationships with paramedics, administrative and management staff with advanced problem-solving and public relations skills.
    • Strong research, project/time management and analytical/critical thinking skills are required.
    • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and ability to learn new software which is relevant to the position.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, with the ability to make presentations to large groups and a variety of audiences. 

    Qualifications will include:

    • Holds the qualification of an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (A-EMCA), is certified as a Primary Care Paramedic in Ontario and has a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience working in EMS.
    • Demonstrated supervisory, management and leadership skills.
    • Management and/or Community Paramedic education or experience is considered an asset.
    • Understanding of allied or public health care agencies through work on committees is considered an asset. 

    We offer a salary ranging from $83,479.33- $95,352.06 per annum.
